What begins as remainder,
Does not remain so.
Planks of an old space,
To move into a new one.
Edges cut, pieces rearranged,
Lives of wood,
Layered into pattern.
I am memories that were made to join,
An exclusive counter,
12 seats to dine.
Papa’s, an exclusive dining space.
12 pre-booked guests served by the chef, every night.

A simple request: reuse the old, to take to the new.
Wood salvaged — fragments with history, already lived-in.
Marquetry became the answer: overlap and interlock, randomness made precise.

We worked with Labwork, the interior design firm for this project. This was the first time we attempted this scale of marquetry, first time we made furniture for a commercial setting. At Shed, we always build functionality, but it is never just function. We wanted to bring about the hip and happening spirit of Papa’s, a subtle playfulness along with function.
We made the counter to become an icebreaker — a place where conversations began not just with food, but with the table itself. Nothing was to rise above the table. So we built the piece to invite touch: stone disks to spin, mounts to hold bowls, brass cats as cutlery rests. The play stayed within its surface — subtle, shared and precise.

I am remainders turned into centerpiece.
A counter of marquetry, memory, and meeting.
Twelve strangers gather, twelve stories unfold —
Wood to carry them forward
Again and again and again.

A colour for every intersection, an interplay of grains,
A playful language of geometry, embellished with stone details.
