I am a play between stillness & move
A map of battles, silent yet alive.
Shades of wood, joined and pressed,
Shaped on brass till the balance is met.
One held weight, another held a story,
Each square turned, each piece set.

Creating contrast with colours of wood - black of sesame and white of teak.
Each piece has its home in a grove, a compartment built in the board itself - ready to pack and ready to play, and also to carry along the way.

Wood was our choice of material the first ever time we conceptualized these classic board games. Our access to the material helped us push little details: each chessmen was created with striations in different directions, achieved with minute wood marquetry.
This set is really an expression of how tiny marquetry can get, and of how consistent small strips of wood could combine together giving us a bunch of variations and creating a jewel-like composition.
