Glass Cabinet

A cabinet of colour and light — where fragility meets form, brass lends strength, and glass finds an unlikely frame.

Found in Jaipur’s old city lanes,
300 pieces cut, buffed, and polished
I am journey spanning two years,
I am a page in the story of glass.
Glass adopted, brought home and understood
Played with in a fearless frame
Tried, tested to learn everything it could be,
And found that repetition eventually becomes scale.

Our terrace table was the first test with coloured glass and it was time for the next step.
What was once a small panel wanted to grow, to be seen in scale

A cabinet became the answer. But glass, though hard, is also fragile. It resists joinery, rejects pressure, asks to be cushioned in fabric, wood or padding. Fearlessly doing the opposite — removing the wood entirely - multiple trials, prototypes & experiments, learning to hold it with brass.

The story of setting up glass-working in-house is a feat of improvisation, instincts and a classic Indian approach to problem-solving called ‘Jugaad’. No machine was ready for this scale - too small for factories, too thick for studios.
So we borrowed tools from other industries, revisited known techniques and built a setup of glass-working at our studio, ourselves. The journey was a very long one, but we loved every bit of it - and I like to believe we have only explored the tip of the iceberg yet - there is an ocean of learning to be done, waiting for us to dive in.

Glass — fragile, delicate, long held in caution,
Now steadied by brass, stripped free of protection.
The smallest pins, the thinnest of frames,
Tried in joineries, refined through many names.
At last, I stand tall — steady and one,
My colour and light are now,
That which they always wanted to become.

A study in colour and light interplay, glass that is as visible as it can be, its character uncovered more than ever. A new language emerged in brass pins, thinned to be almost invisible. Two hard materials revealed an unlikely softness — the lustre of brass against the colour of glass.
